Exactly opposite the housing there is an
island, uninhabited and barren, which is called Astriotiko or Panagia.
From tradition, it has been know that this was
the island of the sirens who according to homer enchanted sea travelers with
their majestic soon. Opposite this island is Giola.
According to legend, the lake is the eye of
Zues, which he used to spy on his wife.
According to another legend, Zues created Giola for Aphrodite to bathe
in. Thus Giola is also known as “Aphrodite’s tear”.
They created a lee pool, almost like a private
area. On its one side its slate is highest, and from there the daring drive
off. The two other sides are lower which reach the sea and touch its surface.
The rocks throughout the area are white with exception to those which touch the
surface of the sea, since the water of the sea has darkened their colour. Its
slight downward glat surface makes it a great place for sunbathing and taking
relaxing naps. Giola might not have large dimensions, but it is sensational.
You need to just be a little careful when getting there and you shouldn’t go
barefoot.
